Sno-Sho

In the late 1960s & 1970s it was comprised of many sculptures, snow mobile races, dog team races, the crowning of a Prince and Princess, igloo opening, family skating parties at Jaycee Beach lit up by bonfires and torches, hockey and other sports, pancake breakfasts, dances and many indoor activities. The ice sculpture seen here depicts a Nursery Rhyme dating back to 1794 of an old woman who lived in a shoe with many children. For supper she fed them broth without bread and would whip them at bedtime! Over the centuries, some writers and groups rehabilitated the old lady, making her a more tender hearted parent who fed the children good food and never whipped them!

We have come a long way since 1794. UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization) recommends that corporal punishment be prohibited in schools, homes and institutions and alleges that it is a violation of human rights and harmful to children.
