Sliding Hills

A Ukrainian style pioneer house in the R.M. of Sliding Hills, owned by Wasyl Chabun.

We received a history of this house from David Chabun of Canora, Sask.

To quote: “This house is located on NW Section 22 Township 30 Range 3 West of the 2nd Meridian. The land was homesteaded in 1897. A family of nine siblings were born and raised in this house. It was built in 1903 and remains on the land to this date, unfortunately aged with time. Plans for a 1967 Centennial Park within the Rural Municipality of Sliding Hills, where this house would have been moved did not materialized. The property remains in the Chabun family, owned by grandson David Chabun and farmed by great grandson Curtis. In 1980, the Family Farm Heritage Award was presented to grandson David, for continuous farming in the same family. The family were also awarded a Century Family Farm plaque.”
