For the first time, the CP Holiday Train is making a stop in Yorkton to spread early Christmas cheer.
The Holiday Train, which raises funds for food banks across America and Canada, started its cross-country trip on Nov. 25. It will arrive in Yorkton at noon on Monday, Dec. 4. It will stop on the tracks near Livingstone Street, behind the City Centre Park.
“[We’re providing] even more fun and...activities for anyone coming down to the train,” said councillor Randy Goulden.
Hot dogs and hot chocolate will be available at the train in exchange for donations to the local food bank.
There will be other events held throughout the city, including a Lego installation at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery and a railroad display at the public library.
The Holiday Train will feature performances from Canada’s own Emma-Lee and Colin James.
Livingstone Street, along with 3rd and 4th avenue south, will be blocked off in the morning. People are advised to bring their own blankets and folding chairs.
The event is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring donations for the food bank.
