Children walked many miles to school in the pre-1950s before school buses took over.
If you were lucky if you could get there on horseback. Country schools also had a barn.
You brought your lunch and the feed for the horse. Here we have what the donors of the photo have humorously called "the school bus."
Riding the draft horse are from left to right: Lily McInnes, Jack McInnes, Marg McInnes, Clarence McInnes and Henry Rosenmeyer. The children would have been on their way to Pebble Lake School, 5 miles south (8 kilometers) on the west side of No. 9 Highway. Circa 1942.
