House arrest in auto theft case

A 20-year-old Yorkton woman will spend the next six months under house arrest for her role in the theft of two vintage cars last September. Jessica Kopan pleaded guilty March 4 to one count of break, enter and theft over $5,000.

A 20-year-old Yorkton woman will spend the next six months under house arrest for her role in the theft of two vintage cars last September.

Jessica Kopan pleaded guilty March 4 to one count of break, enter and theft over $5,000.

Between September 9 and 16, 2014, Kopan and two alleged male co-accused removed a 1976 Dodge Dart and a 1969 Pontiac Firebird from a Quonset approximately 22 kilometres southwest of Yorkton. A trail camera caught the three suspects on video.

Also charged were Darwin Blaze Mogenson, 23, of Watrous; and Blain Gilbert Gaudet, 30, of Melville.

In Yorkton court last Wednesday, Kopan received a conditional sentence requiring electronic monitoring. In addition to the statutory conditions she also must live at an approved residence; present herself at the door of that residence if requested to do so by the authorities; not possess or consume alcohol or drugs or attend a place that the primary business of is selling alcohol; participate in employment or educational opportunities; participate in assessment and treatment for addictions, and personal counseling; provide a suitable sample of breath or blood if police have reasonable grounds to suspect she is in breach of the sentence; submit to a search of her person to a maximum of three time per month if police have reasonable grounds to suspect a breach of conditions; and have no contact with Mogenson, Gaudet and two other men not related to the auto theft.

Gaudet, who also faces charges of trafficking stolen property and breach of probation is scheduled for trial starting August 5.

Mogenson was also charged with trafficking as well as possession of the proceeds of crime is in custody in Saskatoon on numerous other informations from other jurisdictions. He has pleaded not guilty to the Yorkton charges and is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon court March 25 for election of the type of trial he wants.
