Students from across the Good Sprit School Division gathered Friday for the first annual Yorkton Regional High School youth pow wow.
The pow wow, held at Century Field, was intended to increase knowledge and understanding all students have of Aboriginal culture.
"I really want the aboriginal students to be able to show their culture in such a positive light," said Amanda Anderson, YRHS aboriginal community worker who spearheaded the event.
Months of hard work paired with the emotion of the grand entry revealed a tearful Anderson, who thanked everyone for coming.
"I got emotional because as soon as it started I knew the day would be exceptional," she says.
Several cultural activities were offered to students including traditional beading, tepee teachings and storytelling. The prayer, the singing, the beautiful regalia of the dancers, the drumming and the sunshine all culminated to create a great spirit of celebration.
