Influenza season usually runs until early spring. Getting vaccinated is your best defense against getting influenza. “So far, Sunrise Health Region has not experienced an influenza outbreak. However, there have been six confirmed cases of influenza diagnosed in the last week in the region,” said Dr. Nsungu, Medical Health Officer for the Sunrise Health Region. “Residents who would like to get the vaccine can still contact their Public Health offices.”

Drop-in influenza immunization clinics continue to be held at the Public Health office at 150 Independent Street in Yorkton on Mondays from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., until the end of March. Rural residents are asked to call their local Public Health office to schedule a time that works for you.

Influenza immunizations are also available to persons over 17 years of age by drop in at many pharmacies in the Sunrise Health Region. Immunizations are free in Saskatchewan whether you receive one through a pharmacy in your community or your local public health nurse.

More information about influenza immunization can be found on the Sunrise Health Region website at www.sunrisehealthregion.sk.ca.
