The Town of Kelvington will benefit from improved wastewater infrastructure thanks to joint federal and provincial funding announced on Dec. 17 by Garry Breitkreuz, Member of Parliament for Yorkton — Melville, on behalf of Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification Michelle Rempel, and Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter.

The investment will allow Kelvington to extend sewer lines, as well as install the manholes and hydrants necessary for residential development.  The project will increase the number of households and industries connected to sanitary sewer systems and improve the reliability of the treatment system.

The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are each investing $40,874 in the project through savings realized through previous projects coming in under budget as part of the Communities Component of the original Building Canada Fund (BCF-CC). Kelvington will contribute the balance of the $122,622 project.

“Our government is committed to helping communities meet their infrastructure needs so that they can continue to grow and thrive,” said Breitkreuz. “With today’s announcement, we are demonstrating this commitment and helping to create jobs and growth by providing reliable wastewater collection systems in a new residential area.”

“Improving municipal infrastructure is a priority for the Government of Saskatchewan,” Reiter said. “We are proud to invest in projects that support the growth of our communities and contribute to a high quality of life for Saskatchewan’s residents.”

“This partnership with the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan highlights their dedication to rural growth,” Town of Kelvington Mayor Trevor Lowey said. “This addition to our municipal infrastructure provides our community with opportunities that were previously unattainable.”
