On December 19, 2013, Sunrise Health Region hosted a tea to celebrate the return of the residents and staff at Invermay Health Centre. Joining the celebration and speaking at the event was June Draude, MLA for Wadena-Kelvington, Ken Krawetz, MLA for Canora-Pelly, Michael Kaminski, Mayor of Invermay, Don Rae, Vice Chairperson of Sunrise Health Region, Suann Laurent, President and CEO of Sunrise Health Region, and Faye Jack, Health Services Administrator at the Invermay Health Centre.
Structural floor damage discovered in January 2013 made repairs necessary throughout Invermay Health Centre. The repairs to all areas, with the exception of the East wing, were completed prior to the October 29, 2013 return of the residents who were temporarily accommodated in Canora. The residents temporarily accommodated in Foam Lake returned a few days later.
Don Rae, Vice Chairperson of Sunrise Health Region spoke to the residents and families at the event saying, "News of the need to temporarily relocate must have been very distressing for you. We applaud your strength and your resiliency and we are sincerely pleased to see you safely restored to your home."
During the event Health Services Manager, Faye Jack and her staff praised the residents and staff at the Canora Gateway Lodge, Canora Hospital and Foam Lake Jubilee Home for the warm reception received and the friendships that developed over the 10 months that Invermay residents and staff spent at the facilities.
While they were away, the building crews were busy restoring the Invermay Health Centre. In addition to the floor, windows and roofing replacement, the nursing station was remodeled for better visibility, the tub room was modernized, and the whole facility was refreshed.
"Our board is proud of the response of our entire Sunrise Health Region team who coordinated a smooth transition and kept the safety and comfort of our residents the priority," said Don Rae.
The East wing repairs have progressed well and will soon be complete. When finished, the facility will be back to full capacity of 24 residents and visiting services can return.
