The City of Yorkton had to adjust its janitorial contract in order to get the best deal.
"A two-part janitorial contract was tendered June 13, 2014. Part I of the tender included janitorial requirements at City Hall, RCMP, Yorkton Public Library, Godfrey Dean, Chamber/Tourism, Public Works, Gloria Hayden, Deer Park and the Fire Hall. Part II outlined duties at the Water Treatment Plant and Waste Water Treatment Plant," explained a report circulated to the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
Part II of the contract was awarded to Service Master.
Part I was deemed too costly by Council and as a result, Administration was directed to retender the agreement.
This time each building could be bid on independently instead of as a group. This process was recommended in efforts to attract smaller service providers by offering a smaller scope of work, explained Trent Mandzuk, Director of Public Works.
"Service Master was the only service provider to submit a bid for the first tender process. The second tender received bids from three contractors. The total cost of all the lowest bids for the second tender was $883,027. Although some prices were higher in comparison to last round, the total cost for all buildings was $182,093 lower than the first agreement," detailed the report.
Council was unanimous in accepting the new contracts.
