Job opportunities in Yorkton are up significantly compared to last summer, according to one of the province's measuring tools.

The government-run SaskJobs.ca website saw 519 job postings for the Yorkton area this June compared to 364 in June of 2010: a 42.6 percent increase.

Province-wide job postings in the same comparison period jumped by 45 percent.

The largest growth in Yorkton was seen in the sectors of Natural & Applied Science (6 jobs to 16: 166.7 percent growth), Sales & Service (59 to 160: 171.2 percent), and Processing & Manufacturing (6 to 26: 333.3 percent).

The only category to experience a decrease was Social Service, Government Service, Education & Religion, which dropped from 89 postings to 43.

Part of the increase might be explained by growth in the jobs website itself. Visits to SaskJobs.ca are up 12 percent over last year.

There are currently over 700 jobs for the Yorkton region posted on the website.
