Faithful fans of the Yorkton Community Concert Band and the Community Concert Choir filled St. Andrews Church, May 12, for the final concert of the season. In the first photo, percussionists Gwen Machnee and Jessica Denbrok donned aviator’s helmets to help set the mood for a dramatic tribute to troops who fought the Battle of Inchon — a major Korean war conflict — in which helicopter gunships played a major role. Directors Larry Pearen (concert band) and Laurene Jemieff (choir) conducted the musicians through a repertoire of classical and popular music ranging from spirituals to concert marches — finishing off with a joint performance of a collage of Gershwin Broadway tunes. The band and choir includes musicians from Yorkton and communities well beyond — from Whitewood to Esterhazy on to Kamsack and Preeceville.
