An 18-year-old Yorkton man will find out tomorrow if he will begin his adulthood in jail.
Cheywin Ironstand appeared in Yorkton court Monday on charges of causing a disturbance over the weekend.
Shortly after he turned 18 at the beginning of March, he was arrested for breaching the conditions of a youth order. He was sentenced to pay fines on those charges just last Friday. Because of this the Crown opposed his release.
Duty counsel Richard Yaholnitsky asked for a bail verification report. Judge Patrick Reis told the defence the previous sentencing was fresh in his mind. He then reminded the accused that he had said just three days earlier that if he, the judge, saw Ironstand back before him the young man would be going to jail.
“I can’t see any reason how or why I would release him,” Reis warned Yaholnitsky.
Nevertheless, the defence persisted and the judge eventually ordered the bail report.
The bail hearing is scheduled for 9:30 March 26.
