The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce has announced the speaker for the 2018 Chamber Business Dinner. This year’s speaker is Janet Bannister.
In the business world, Bannister is best known for launcing kijiji.ca, one of the most visited websites in Canada. She also lead Kijiji Global to accelerate growth in North America, Europe and Asia. She also founded and built a successful consulting business and was a CEO at a Toronto-based start-up in the online content and commercial space explained the Yorkton Chamber in a release.
Donna Brothwell, Chair of the Events Committee says they wanted to pick someone with a background everyone recognized, and Kijiji is a household name.
“For myself, I really wanted to see the Chamber to be a little bit more diverse, and maybe a woman speaker at our Business Dinner might help. We have a lot of businesses out there run by women, and I think it’s a great opportunity to hear how she did it.”
This is a major anniversary year for both the Yorkton Chamber and the Business Dinner itself.
This will mark the 20th year for the dinner, and the 120th anniversary of the Chamber itself. As part of the landmark year for the Chamber, it will also host the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce AGM on the same weekend as the Business Dinner.
“It’s really great they’re coming out for the anniversary for such a big speaker to support all of the little chambers.”
