“The Kinsmen Foundation has come forward with a significant contribution that will help us move forward with our plans for a new CT scanner,” said Ross Fisher, the Executive Director of The Health Foundation. “We have been raising money since the beginning of the year for the new CT, and while we haven’t raised enough money to buy it, this donation brings us close enough that we are going to order the new CT scanner.”

“This new CT scanner will have a cost of approximately $1,245,000; this includes the cost of renovations necessary to upgrade the power supply and put in a new cooling system for the CT, and taxes. With this donation from the Kinsmen Foundation we have now raised $565,000. While we still have to raise $80,000 to be able to pay for the machine and the renovations, we are going to order the machine and trust that we will be able to raise the remaining funds by the time the machine arrives. We feel that at this point it makes sense to order now and take advantage of the savings from being part of a group purchase.

It should take five to six weeks for the machine to be built and to be delivered. Our order will go in over the Christmas period, so that might slow it down a little but it shouldn’t have a significant effect. Once it arrives it will take three to four weeks to install, test and train staff on the new machine. There will be a period of about three weeks when we are without CT service during the transition.” continued Mr. Fisher.

“When the machine arrives we will set up a media availability and distribute information regarding the machines capabilities and have people present to answer questions. We can set up a demonstration to show how it works and demonstrate some of the obvious improvements with the new machine,” continued Mr. Fisher.

“This is the kind of community project the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation likes to support,” said Mike Thompson, President of the Yorkton Kinsmen. “The new CT will have benefit to everyone in this region as it is a huge upgrade for our local healthcare service. It will provide better images for our doctors to diagnose medical conditions. It will diagnose conditions our current machine cannot; it will save lives. This is why we raise money locally for the Kinsman Foundation, so the Foundation can help with projects like this and make a positive impact on people’s lives.

This year is the 40th Anniversary of Kinsmen and Kinettes Telemiracle, and this donation serves as a good reminder to all of us how Telemiracle can make a difference in people’s lives,” said Dana Prystupa, Vice President of the Yorkton Kinettes.

“When Kinsmen Foundation considers a donation they want to see that the community supports a project,” continued Ms. Prystupa. “The community had already stepped up in a big way by raising 75% of the funds before sending in the application to Telemiracle; I’m sure that helped the Telemiracle board decide in our favour.”
