Legacy of Worship

Photographer Larry Easton and collaborators Margaret Hryniuk and Frank Korvemaker launched their second book, Legacy of Worship, at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery Saturday afternoon. This project by the three focused on the historic churches and sacred places all across Saskatchewan. With religion having a large part to play in the settlement of Saskatchewan, the goal of the project was to bring the history of decaying rural churches back to life by reliving stories of colourful congregation members, researching architecture and preserving them by photography. “It’s not just the church founded in 1910 and operated until 1915... that’s the routine we get in our history books. We wanted more exciting stories,” said Korvemaker. 275 photos of worship lie within the pages of the book, and was well received by residents in and around Yorkton area, especially those whose churches were featured.
