The week of June 3-to-10 was proclaimed Lions Week in the city by Yorkton Council at its regular meeting Monday.
The week marks the local Lions Club hosting the 2013 MD5 Lions Convention, where they are expecting 425 delegates from North and South Dakota, as well as across Saskatchewan, explained Lions president Peter Legebokoff.
Legebokoff said the local club has been active in the city for 65 years, investing in a number of community projects, from playground equipment, to nursing home furnishings to cooperating with other organization to present Spring Expo and LobsterFest.
"Lions can be very responsive in times of need," added Legebokoff. He pointed to the 2010 flood when the club held an impromptu meeting in a parking lot and pledged $10,000 to flood relief.
Legebokoff said having the week designated, and the upcoming Lions gathering, will both go to raise awareness of their efforts.
