Local business fined

Derek Connors, Director of Parkland Heatsavers Inc. in Yorkton, has pleaded guilty to two charges under Saskatchewan's Labour Standards Act and was fined $690 in Yorkton Provincial Court.


Derek Connors, Director of Parkland Heatsavers Inc. in Yorkton, has pleaded guilty to two charges under Saskatchewan's Labour Standards Act and was fined $690 in Yorkton Provincial Court.

Connors was charged with failing to pay final wages and failing to pay annual holiday pay to one employee within 14 days after termination of employment took effect. One additional charge was stayed in court. Three separate charges against Parkland Heatsavers Inc. were stayed in court.

The Labour Standards Division of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety supports fair and equitable workplace practices through public awareness and enforcement of The Labour Standards Act and Regulations as well as other labour legislation. Whenever necessary, violations will be prosecuted.

In the past twelve months, Labour Standards has convicted five employers for violating different provisions of the legislation. Additional prosecutions against six employers are currently pending.
