At its annual ABEX Awards banquet October 22 the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce honoured Yorkton’s Cornerstone Credit Union with the Community Involvement Award.

“At Cornerstone we take great pride in the work we do within our communities; community involvement is engrained in our organization and our culture,” said Lori Walsh, vice president of marketing and strategic solutions. “Receiving this award is gratifying. It is a true fit for our credit union as giving back and showing leadership in our communities is an integral part of who we are. We do it because we want to, not because we have to!”

The Chamber described the credit union in glowing terms.

“Cornerstone Credit Union has been proudly serving the region of east Central Saskatchewan for over 75 years,” a press release from the provincial Chamber stated. “With more than 25,000 members, 11 locations, and 186 employees, Cornerstone Credit Union represents a trusted financial institution on the prairies that puts its members and communities first. Cornerstone Credit Union has done an exemplary job serving its communities through volunteerism, financial investment, and staff involvement.”

The credit union was the only Yorkton finalist to secure hardware this year but several local businesses were in the hunt.

Core Real Estate was a finalist in two categories, Community Involvement and Marketing. TA Foods also got two nods for the Export and Priority Focus Awards.

R.H. Electric was up for Growth and Expansion while Dustin Nehring and Taylor Lange of N.L. Construction were finalists for Young Entrepreneur.

“We at the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce are once again very impressed with the quality of nominations from so many businesses throughout the province,” said CEO Steve McLellan.

The Saskatchewan Business of the Year was Regina Jewellery company Hillberg & Berk.

“They continue to grow at an incredible pace and exceed their corporate goals on every level. They truly are a world-class, Saskatchewan success story and we are exceptionally proud of them.”
