As part of a drainage study being carried out by Associated Engineering, this June's storm event was analyzed.
The Report was circulated to Yorkton Council at its regular meeting Monday.
"The intensity of the event was determined to be a 1:25 while the duration was 1:100. Since the ground was already saturated, the accumulation of rainfall over the event resulted in numerous basements receiving seepage or sewer backup," detailed the Report.
PDAP has reported it has received over 800 claims from Yorkton and area as a result of this event.
The Report suggested, "Damage from the June event was reduced by the actions of Public Works at various locations throughout the city."
"The storm ponds and drainage channel on Dracup Avenue North helped to reduce damage upstream in the Superstore area. These ponds and drainage channel were full and in some locations encroached on Dracup Avenue."
And, work to improve drainage continues.
"The drainage channel currently being constructed will assist in the storage of storm water in the future. This work is anticipated to be completed by the end of October. The current piping network across Darlington will be upsized which will assist in the conveyance of storm water from Pond #3 to the storm channel north of Darlington," stated the Report.
"There is one other storm pond to be constructed along Dracup Avenue North. This pond will be located to the north of the college site. Engineering Services anticipates this work will be done in 2017. This is the final storm pond located along Dracup Avenue North that was contemplated in the 2006 engineering report. Work on the design should occur in 2016 with construction in the winter/spring of 2017."
