A Yorkton sheet metal worker is being hailed as a hero following a medical emergency that occurred on Broadway Avenue last week.

Rumours had it that a man was walking near Joe Beaverz when he had a heart attack. Michael Boris, an employee of Yorkton Plumbing and Heating saw the incident and immediately started doing CPR.

Dennis Nelson, president of East Central E.M.S. Ambulance Services, the private contractor who supplies ambulance service to Sunrise Health Region, would not divulge any specific information about the incident due to patient privacy concerns, but he did confirm that a good Samaritan had intervened while his paramedics were en route.

"There was definitely someone doing CPR when we arrived on the scene," Nelson said. "And doing CPR very well, I might add."

Boris may very well have saved the victim's life.

"I would venture to say that this individual made a difference in the outcome," Nelson said. "In a case like this there is only a matter of minutes to get some blood flowing."

Boris was unavailable for comment, but Chris Wyatt, the company's safety manager and a Yorkton city councillor, said the journeyman sheet metal worker was well-prepared for such a situation through his previous experience doing large jobs in Ontario, Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

Boris has been with Yorkton Plumbing and Heating for approximately three months.
