A large new sign for Broadway Corner indicates eight businesses will be part of the development.
Calling it Phase I, Darryl Meier, CMA, General Manager, Development with Harvard Developments Inc. said four separate buildings are scheduled for 2012 construction.
"They're all planned for 2012 construction," he said, adding work will begin as early as possible. " As soon as the snow melts and the ground dries we'll be out there."
Meier said the expectation would be for the buildings to be complete by September / October, "with tenants open for business late in 2012."
There will be two stand alone restaurant buildings built this year, said Meier, one housing a Mr Mikes Steakhouse, and the other an A&W.
Two strip malls will also move forward.
The first will be anchored by Dollarama, with 9,000 square feet of floor space, and a Bulk Barn (a bulk food store) occupying 5,000 square feet, said Meier. The two stores will be in a building with 18,500 square feet, the remainder housing small developments such as Subway and The Pita Pit.
The second strip mall will be 10,500 square feet, with Dad's Organic Market anchoring it with a 5,000 square foot location, said Meier.
"They're new," he said of Dad's Organic Market, adding they started with a store location in Saskatoon and have since added a Regina store. Yorkton will be the third location.
The four buildings are just the start of a larger development on the site. Meier said in total there will be 100,000 square feet of potential building development on the site, with Phase I accounting for about one-third of that. "We'll continue to be leasing and developing," he said. "This is a project that will take a year to build out.
"As soon as we get a building leased it will pop up. We'll do it on a building-by-building basis."
A new Days Inn will be built on the property, but Meier said that is independent of what Harvard Developments is doing, as they have sold a piece of land to the hotel developer.
