Visitors to Crooked Lake Provincial Park will see $1.2 million worth of improvements to the park in the upcoming year, including the construction of a new campground service centre, the addition of new and upgraded electrified sites and upgrades to the potable water system.
Weber Construction Ltd. of Yorkton has been awarded a contract to construct a new campground service centre building. Campground service centres house flush toilets, sinks and showers. The existing facility was initially constructed in 1976 and is ready for an upgrade.
"Our park users have asked for improved washroom facilities at provincial parks," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson said. "This new service centre is another example of our government's commitment to enhancing our provincial park system, by providing our visitors with clean, modern facilities."
In addition to the new campground service centre, Crooked Lake will also be getting new and upgraded electrical campsites and a new water system.
Mid City Electric Ltd. of Air Ronge has been awarded a contract to provide electrical service to 21 newly developed campsites and 72 existing campsites. Crooked Lake Provincial Park currently has a limited number of electrified sites available and many of those cannot support the significant electrical demands required by large recreation vehicles.
Morsky Development Corp. of Regina has been awarded a contract to upgrade the existing water system and renovate the existing water treatment building at Crooked Lake. Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport operates 66 potable water systems at various locations throughout the park system. Along with annual water testing and maintenance, a percentage of the potable water systems in the parks are upgraded yearly.
These improvements fit with government's goal to continue improving Saskatchewan's provincial parks. Providing electrical service to these non-electrified campsites will contribute to the government meeting and exceeding their commitment of providing 1,000 more electrified sites in parks over four years. Along with adding and upgrading electrical service, the ministry is also replacing or upgrading some service centres, potable water systems, historic facilities and some picnic tables and barbeques.
