Man charged with abuse, sexual assault

Fort Qu'Appelle RCMP have charged a 23-year-old man from the Muscowpetung First Nation with Sexual Assault, four counts of Assault, and three counts of Failing to Comply with probation after a report made on Tuesday, August 16 by the accused's spouse.

The incidents in question happened over the previous month. The accusations include two separate assaults against the couple's infant son where the child was choked on one occasion and bitten on the face on another by the accused.

The accused was located and arrested without incident in Fort Qu'Appelle on the afternoon of August 17. He has consented to a six-day remand and is scheduled to make his first appearance in Fort Qu'Appelle Provincial Court on Thursday, August 25 at 10:00 am.

Pointing a firearm
On Friday, August 19 at approximately 7:00 pm, Kamsack RCMP were called to a complaint of a person pointing a firearm at a plane spraying crops in the Hyas District.

Follow-up investigation by Kamsack RCMP resulted in the arrest of a 61-year-old Hyas-area resident. This individual has been charged with several firearm offences.

A number of guns have also been seized from the accused. The accused will be appearing in Kamsack Provincial Court on October 4, 2011.

Hyas is located approximately 50 km northwest of Kamsack.

Traffic blitz in Yorkton
On August 19, 2011, members of Yorkton Region Traffic Services and the Yorkton Municipal Detachment of the RCMP conducted stationary traffic enforcement within the city of Yorkton. As a result of the enforcement operation, a total of 70 charges were laid.

The charges included: 30 for disobeying a stop sign; 20 for exceeding a school zone speed limit; and 16 for failing to properly wear a seatbelt.
