A 38-year-old Saltcoats man remains in custody this week on new charges related to a sexual interference case currently before the courts.

Nathan Penner was originally charged with sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching in August 2013. He was released at that time on conditions which included not having contact with the victim and not communicating with any person under the age of 16 unless in the company of another adult. A trial date was set for April 8.

Cpl. Tim Schwartz, an investigator with the Yorkton General Investigation Section (GIS), said they received a complaint from Penner's alleged 14-year-old victim that the accused had tried to make contact.

In a press release, the Mounties allege Penner set up a false social media account in January and attempted to persuade the victim to drop the original charges.

Following an investigation by GIS and the RCMP Child Exploitation Unit, which included executing a search warrant of Penner's Saltcoats business, officers arrested him February 14 on new charges including luring a child, obstructing the course of justice, intimidation of a justice system participant and seven breaches of an undertaking.

At a lengthy hearing February 21, Penner was denied bail and remanded until his next court appearance on the new charges March 3.
