Manufacturing still strong

Saskatchewan's manufacturing sector continued to see strong gains in July, as shipments in the province posted the largest percentage increase in the nation.

"Having nearly three times the increase of the national average shows just how much business is going on in Saskatchewan right now, and that is translating into new jobs and new opportunities," Enterprise Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "A few days ago, another private forecaster predicted Saskatchewan will lead the country in economic growth in 2012, and today's numbers show we have a strong base to build from."

Manufacturing shipments were up 18.1 per cent in July 2011 over July 2010 (seasonally adjusted).

Nationally, manufacturing shipments were up only 6.9 per cent over the same period.
