Matechuk pleads guilty to two charges

Jordan Matechuk of Yorkton pleaded guilty to two drug charges stemming from an incident at the United States border at the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Brian Peppler, Chippewa County Prosecutor of the 91st Judicial District Court confirmed the guilty plea recently.

Peppler said Matechuk plead guilty on July 18 for "knowingly or intentionally possessing the controlled substance of steroids and one count of possession of marijuana".

Peppler also told Yorkton This Week that the steroids offence is punishable by up to two years in prison. The marijuana charge could result in Matechuk behind bars for one year.

Peppler also added that the total jail time could amount to two years. It could also be less then two years, he noted.

Matechuk's date of sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 12 when he will go before a judge, Peppler said.
