Failure to Appear

A 30-year-old Regina man scheduled for sentencing last week on methamphetamine trafficking charges in Yorkton is now a fugitive from justice.

Jonathan Robert Church pleaded guilty on October 3 to one count of trafficking, one count of possession and several breaches resulting from the drug charges as he was already subject of a court undertaking.

At the plea hearing last month, a Yorkton judge ordered a pre-sentence report and scheduled sentencing for November 17.

Court documents indicate Church told the justice official tasked with preparing his presentence report he intended to rescind his guilty pleas. He failed to appear for a presentence report meeting so it was not prepared, the documents state.

When Church’s name was called November 17, he was not present. Judge Ross Green consented to put the matter to the foot of the docket, but when the defendant failed to show up issued a warrant for his arrest.
