The baseball season has been delayed by a handful of rainouts, including three over the past weekend.

Two were in Yorkton and one came in Weyburn.

Kevin Shirtliffe of the Yorkton Minor Baseball Association said his team has already been slowed down by the three rainouts his team has had so far in their season.

YMBA had already taken a hit this season for numbers/teams as registration has been down by about 50 from last year, he said.

There won't be a midget team and there is only one bantam team playing. The pee wee division is the only age group which has three teams operating.

The other groups include: Mosquito (three teams), Rookie (six teams), Junior Jays (six teams), Blast ball (six teams). Each team will only have about five kids playing, says Shirtliffe.

Most of the players who aren't playing this year are accounted for in the midget division which doesn't have any teams, he says, and the bantam group which only has one team.

"It's disappointing to not have a midget team," he said, but added that when the bantam players that finish this year graduate, they should be ready to bring the midget team back.

Some of the teams that are playing can be tracked online at sites.google/site/parklandumpires/yorkton-minor-ball.
