On November 26 Mr. Ostapowich's YRHS History 10 students visited Government House and the Saskatchewan Legislature. The students toured Government House which was decorated for the Christmas season. The museum was set for the time period of the 19th century and Saskatchewan's first Lieutenant Governor, Amedee Forget. In the afternoon the class visited the Saskatchewan Legislature and met with the Yorkton MLA, Greg Ottenbreit to learn about the role and responsibilities of an MLA and government systems. Students got a tour of the historic building and watched a House session which included guest introductions and oral questions. At the same time the Grey Cup was introduced to the House by Ryan Getzlaf and Geroy Simon along with members of the Rider Executive. YRHS students go to the Legislature every semester as part of the History 10 program. MLA Ottenbreit has met just under 250 students since being elected to the Legislature. History teacher, Perry Ostapowich, has taken 22 groups of students to the Legislature. Just under 700 students have visited the House since 2002.
