Yorkton Council approved $5,000 in adjustments to the City's 2012 Library Budget, with an additional $5,000 to be funded from the general surplus to help with additional staffing costs at the Yorkton Public Library.
The Public Library Board had previously requested some $12,000 to fund the staffing changes at the Yorkton Public Library.
The Yorkton library levy is $18.82 per capita, which translates to $276,185 in 2010.
"The Library levy goes to headquarters which in turn goes towards paying the staffing costs. Headquarters manages all aspects of staffing and the union agreement is very much in favour of the employees with bumping rights and stipulated hours," explained a report to Council.
Yorkton employs six full time staff plus two pages and four call-in casual staff.
The additional cost is tied to the expected retirement of the head librarian.
"With the pending retirement, there is an opportunity to hire the right person to move the library forward. Strong leadership and managerial skills will be required to assess current operations and affect position change. The funds required are between $10,000 and $12,000," detailed the report.
