Reconstruction of Myrtle Avenue is going to cost the City of Yorkton more than initially expected.
The reconstruction "was approved as a capital project for 2012 with a pre-tender estimate of $520,000," Trent Mandzuk, Director of Public Works with the City told the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
Tenders for the project closed Aug. 10, with only one bid received from Federowich Construction.
"Federowich's bid for the project was $629,543.30, for a difference over the capital budget estimate of $109,543.30," said Mandzuk, noting a significant increase was seen in unit prices for concrete removal and replacement when compared to 2011 pricing.
Mandzuk said while the scope of the work might be reduced in order to meet the pre-tender estimate, it was not the recommendation.
Instead Administration recommended acceptance of the tender, plus a $50,000 contingency fund.
Mandzuk said it was also proposed that the difference of $159,543.30 above the pre-tender estimate be funded from the Department's operational budget under contracted services within surfaced streets.
Council unanimously supported the recommendation to proceed with the project at the higher cost.
