Portable classrooms at Christ the Teacher Catholic Schools (CTTCS) will be getting new ventilation systems following passage of the separate division’s 2015-2016 budget.

This is the biggest single ticket item in the budget coming in at $450,000 over the next two years.

CTTCS chief financial officer Delmer Zwirsky, said the new systems will greatly improve the air quality in the classrooms.

Other budget highlights included $110,000 for new computers and laptops; $60,000 for renewal of religion resources for Grades 1 and 2; $72,000 to continue the division’s investment in more teaching supports; and $75,000 to upgrade the administration’s business software.

At the same meeting, the board’s regular monthly meeting, trustees unanimously ratified the local collective bargaining agreement with its teachers. Darrell Zaba, director of education, said the teachers had previously voted to accept the agreement by approximately 90 per cent.

The biggest thing in the agreement, he said, was a $50 increase per teacher in the allocation for professional development from $450 to $500 a year.
