Two exhibits are on display at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery now until December 23rd. “My History, My Tradition” by Catherine Blackburn and Katherine Boyer highlight their individualities through culture and traditions. Using beading patterns on traditional Dene clothing, she incorporates these patterns within her own contemporary style of beading. Boyer’s work showcases her identity as a contemporary Metis artist through linocut and silkscreen images from family photographs. The second exhibit by Belinda Harrow acts as a metaphor for dating in the modern age. She employs the iconography of beavers to explore love and relationships. As beavers are a species that mate for life, she contrasts this simplicity to the complexity of the online dating world that is fast-paced and often emotionally confusing. Despite the odds, the idea of a big win relationship looms within reach, ready for the moment when two people can yell, “Bingo!”
