Corey Geddes presents Deana Jesmer with the first drink of the honey brown ale that Back 40 Brewery has brewed in partnership with Snowarama.

Snowarama has done many things for children with disabilities in the province since it launched over 40 years ago, raising money for Easter Seals through the annual snowmobile ride. Kicking off with International Beer Night in Yorkton, it has received a notable honour – it’s very own beer.

Back Forty Brewery in Yorkton launched a brew for Snowarama, a honey brown ale. Corey Geddes with Back Forty explains that the brew is something that can satisfy a wide range of beer drinkers.

“It finishes with a nice taste of honey right at the end, it’s a nice smooth beer.”

The choice of a brown ale was also inspired by the event. Geddes explains that short days and darker beers tend to go together, and people are more likely to enjoy a brown ale in the winter than they would in other seasons.

“This is more of a full bodied beer.”

It’s also a local beer, and as a honey brown ale, they had the opportunity to partner with a local honey producer – Howland’s Honey – to get the defining ingredient of the new ale.

“We try to keep it within the community and the parkland area... It’s finding those unique ingredients to make different beers.”

The new beer was one of the highlights of the International Beer Night event, which featured a cast of beers from around the world as well as the local brew. Geddes says they were happy to take part.

“This is a perfect fit for us because we believe in Snowarama, we know they do really good work.”

Snowarama will take place on February 10, 2018, with riders setting off to the north on trails provided by Yorkton SnoRiders, so long as the weather cooperates and snow is on the ground.
