Rocky Mountain Equipment (RME), the Case IH dealership in Yorkton, is getting a new home.

At a brief presentation last Wednesday at the current facility, Garrett Ganden, president and chief executive officer of Rocky Mountain Equipment officially announced the construction of a new dealership on Highway #9 South, in the Rural Municipality of Orkney.

Dale Rhinas, Reeve of the RM of Orkney said the development is a major one for his jurisdiction.

“This is the best part of my job … welcoming new businesses to the area,” he said, adding the RME development will be “a state-of-the-art business in the area.”

Rhinas said the new facility will build on the tradition of Case equipment which dates back some 170 years.

Yorkton MLA Greg Ottenbreit said the development is a good one for the agricultural sector in the region.

“This is a very exciting announcement,” he said, adding Case IH and the local dealership, has been “an integral part of agriculture for many, many years.”

Ottenbreit added the new development is not just good for the local economy “but the province,” reminding “agriculture is a mega project that happens in our province spring and fall without fail.”

Ganden said the new facility was simply needed.

“We knew we needed to make the investment,” he said, adding it was made easier through the cooperation of the RM “to be able to go and do this.”

In a release Gandan went into greater detail.

“Rocky Mountain Equipment would first like to thank the local community and business leaders who have assisted us, and are continuing to assist us, in making this project a reality.  Yorkton and the surrounding community is an important market for both Rocky Mountain Equipment and Case IH, and today’s ground breaking signifies our continuing commitment to being a dependable partner to the people in this area.  Since our acquisition of Wardale Equipment in 2010, we have had the privilege of building on their legacy of working with fantastic customers in this region, and have seen growth not only in our business, but in the business of many of our customers here.  This community has shown unwavering commitment to us over the years, and we hope that this new facility will stand as a testament to our long-term commitment to them in return.”

The new building will be some 40,000 square feet, and Gandan said with the additional space and business growth, they expect to increase staff from their current 30-plus.

It is anticipated RME will be in their new building in spring 2016
