New Horizons Senior Centre (Yorkton) held their annual New Year’s Dance on Jan. 1, 2016, at the hall on First Avenue. Live music, fanciful hats, horns and noisemakers were provided, a fantastic lunch was served and the dancing and merriment continued past midnight.
The mild weather brought out so many dancers, in a festive mood, that an attendance record was set and full capacity of the hall was quickly reached. Early in the evening, some 165 dancers were registered and along with the four band members and their spouses brought the total to 173 revelers.
It was most unfortunate that a number of those desiring to join in the festivities had to be turned away due to Fire Regulations. In 1991, the Hall was assessed by the Yorkton Fire Department and a permit was issued limiting the maximum number of individuals that could be inside, at any one time, at 173.
This problem has never arisen before and the Board of New Horizons does sincerely apologize to those dancers who were inconvenienced and had to be excluded from the festivities.
Live dances, open to all, are held at the New Horizons Centre every Friday evening from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am, lovely lunches are provided and admission prices are very reasonable. Everyone is invited to participate in this invigorating social event. Please try to attend early to avoid any disappointment.
