The Boys and Girls Club of Yorkton has added a major addition which will mean added room for programming as the space is developed.

Lorraine Moeller, executive director with the Club explained they have made arrangements to assume the space on the top floor of their current location at 54 A Smith Street. The space, some 5000 square feet was previously the Head Start Pre-School.

The additional space will allow the Boys and Girls Club to consolidate most of its programming into a single building location.

“All of our middle years (ages 6-12) that used to be in the Public Library are moving here,” said Moeller.

Moeller said while the relationship with the library the past 13 years has been a good one, the new space will offer greater opportunities in terms of programming as they can develop the area to the Club’s programming and needs.

“A portion of the space is developed and ready to go. That portion is already larger than we had before,” said Moeller, adding the youth programming for fall has already started.

The youth after school program has 50 participants, with some 30 per day taking advantage of the Club’s activities. Moeller said they have a waiting list started, and may expand the number once they have fully settled into the new space.

The remainder of the large area will be developed as needs and funding arises.

In addition to Club needs, Moeller said they expect to be able to rent space for youth birthday partys, and potentially small group meetings, as a way to offset some of their costs. Exactly what may be available for public use, and what days, will again be something that is determined as they settle into the new space, she added.
