New Terry Fox Run coordinator

Yorkton's annual Terry Fox Run will go ahead on September 19 under the supervision of Michael Pasloski, Yorkton & area community outreach coordinator for the Canadian Red Cross.

Yorkton's annual Terry Fox Run will go ahead on September 19 under the supervision of Michael Pasloski, Yorkton & area community outreach coordinator for the Canadian Red Cross.

Prior to Pasloski's signing on, the Terry Fox Foundation reported that the Yorkton event might have to be cancelled in its milestone 30th year because an organizer could not be found.

"It's about making a difference," Pasloski told Yorkton This Week. "At some point, everybody's lives have been affected by cancer in some way. It was important that the event continued."

The run is scheduled for September 19 at 1:30 pm, with registration taking place at 1:00 at the Gallagher Centre. Pledge sheets will start appearing around town next week.

One goal of the run this year is to engage more young people in volunteer roles, said Pasloski; after all, Terry Fox ran his Marathon of Hope between the ages of 21 and 22.

"Somehow the public sort of thinks that Terry grows with us, but he died a very young man."

Volunteers of all ages can contact Michael Pasloski at 782-3210.

The organizer also reminds residents that the run will proceed on September 19 rain or shine.

"That's the spirit of Terry Fox. He did it in all the elements."
