Yorkton Council has approved an $800,000 project to install a new trunk main water line to a new commercial land development in the city.
"To facilitate the construction of the commercial subdivision located south of the Tourism building, the City must install a pipeline from the Queen Street Water Treatment Plant (see related story in this issue)," detailed a report to the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
This major trunk main will serve several purposes;
*Support growth to the south east side of the city.
*Required for the commercial subdivision.
*Will meet partial requirements of providing a major trunk main connecting the east and west sides of the city.
*A future trunk main to the north of the city.
The project costs include $250,000 for piping and valves, $470,250 for installation, and $79,750 as a contingency.
This contract will be funded by the Canada Building Funds grant and will fully utilize the grant allocation, explained Michael Buchholzer, Director of Environmental Services with the City.
Council unanimously approved G. Unger Construction Company Ltd. be awarded the Queen Street Water Treatment Plant, Contract 10: Water Supply Main for a contract price of $470,250.
