In this 1908 photo, Samuel Nathan Wynn is at work here in the office at #8 Third Avenue North. Mr. Wynn was born in Palmerston, Ontario Nov. 26, 1885, a third generation Canadian. He trained as a journalist with the West Toronto Tribune, before coming West in 1904 and came to work for The Yorkton Enterprise. In 1905, Wynn became Editor and eventually became Owner-Publisher. He died in 1973.
The City of Yorkton Archives are forever grateful for The Yorkton Enterprise as the valued source of historical data of Yorkton proper, and the surrounding communities. In 1896, when the newspaper was founded Yorkton was still part of the North West Territories. Many very early stories of Yorkton are unknown because it was without a newspaper for 14 years from its founding in 1882. We were again lucky that in the early years, Yorkton had a local correspondent for the Regina Leader. Some columns in the Leader dating as far back as 1889 were researched and provided very valuable insights in our community and the vicinity.
