Scott Woods is bringing his unique brand of storytelling, humour, and fiddlework back to Yorkton this month.

Woods, the celebrated fiddler, is returning to Yorkton on May 15 at St. Andrew’s United Church as part of his Fiddling Up a Storm tour.

The tour will go until August, covering all of the Canadian provinces. It’s a big tour, but Woods wants to bring his music to as many people as possible.

“Not many people play our type of old-style fiddle music,” said Woods. “It’s an underserviced market.”

Woods combines his impressive fiddle-playing with humourous and touching stories.

“We try to build a theme and tie it all together,” he said.

Woods will be accompanied by other players to build an energetic atmosphere of music.

“We’ve got fast fingers on fiddles and guitars,” he said. “It’s like a hurricane.

“We have a lot of tunes that are fun.”

One of Woods’ favourite moments in the show is a story-song about his grandfather’s experience with Hurricane Hazel in the 1950s.

“It’s kind of a Tommy Hunter moment,” he said.

Woods is excited to see his Yorkton fans again, who he views as friends.

“It doesn’t feel like I’m thousands of miles from home,” he said. “It feels like I’m in my backyard.”

Tickets cost $25 for adults and $10 for children aged six-12. Kids under five-years-old get in for free. People can contact St. Andrew’s United Church (306-783-4157) or Scott Woods’ office (1-855-726-8896) to purchase tickets. The show starts at 7 p.m.
