Yorkton is not on the initial list of destinations included in the Saskatchewan Roughriders Grey Cup tour.
Shortly after the Riders won the CFL championship November 24, the team announced it would take the Cup around the province to share the victory with as many fans as possible. On December 19, the organization revealed the first seven cities and towns for the promised tour.
Kicking off January 4 at Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, around 15 undisclosed players will tour the Cup to Lloydminster (Jan. 5), North Battleford (Nov. 6), Prince Albert (Nov. 7), Macklin (Jan. 11), Kindersley (Jan. 12) and Rosetown (Jan. 13).
In addition to naming the first seven stops, the Roughriders organization announced the tour would continue through the first week of February.
So far, mum is the word in official circles as to whether Yorkton will receive a visit, but as the regional hub of southeast Saskatchewan, one would expect the city to be included in a future announcement.
"I haven't heard from anybody from the club, but I'm assuming they'll be coming," said Mayor Bob Maloney.
"We're one of the major centres."
Local fans will have to wait for the new year to find out, however, according to the press release.
