As this stage of the game it's rare a tour itinerary displays unfamiliar territory for Ten Second Epic after consistently touring Canada. However, when front man Andrew Usenik spoke with Yorkton This Week via phone he confirmed seeing Yorkton was a nice surprise. "Hitting a city we have yet to play is so rare now, you feel you have something to prove to that audience" notes Usenik.
The 5 piece Edmonton based pop punk act boasts the original lineup from their 2002 formation in high school and states the personal relationships strengthen the band. "It's helped everything. When we get in an arguments about a song we laugh about it and have a beer now", notes Usenik. The die hard Edmonton Oiler fan can also add performing the National Anthem to his impressive resume already including nominations for MuchMusic, Canadian Radio and Juno Awards. The bands 2009 release, "Hometown" also reached Top 20 on the Canadian Album charts.
The band's 3rd and latest release, "Better Off" sports the current single "Young Classics" and yet another coast to coast tour. The singer reassures fans the new material follows their core identity. "I think for the most part it's not so much of an unexpected thing. I think you'll hear previous records." "As songwriters we've grown leaps and bounds and we're almost in each others heads," adds Usenik.
Aside from successful tours and festival appearances with the likes of Hedley, Moneen and the Spill Canvas the band has several appearances on the MuchMusic Countdown and the gold status Big Shiny Tunes 12 compilation, Usenik and the band remain loyal to their ultimate achievement. "Airplay and award nominations are flattering but I make a living flying around the world playing music." "We still pinch ourselves when people are singing our songs back to us and that's why we're still going strong."
