Mel Bolen and Karen Holden
Two Perspectives
October 15 to December 20, 2013

Mel Bolen is one of Saskatchewan's best known potters, creating works ranging from functional pieces to large sculptural forms. He has lived in the countryside near Humboldt for thirty five years, spending his time outside in the trees or on the Prairie feasting on the natural beauty. Inspired by the lichen, textures, surfaces and constantly changing colors under the incredible light that illuminates this part of the world, Bolen is always experimenting with technique and form in order to breath new life into his work.

Karen Holden is interested in creating paintings that have movement, texture and depth, hoping to evoke a response from the viewer, make them want to take a second look through use of color, expressive brush strokes and the unexpected. Holden moves between portraiture and landscape, with the natural world is a very important influence for her as well.

For this exhibition Bolen and Holden collaborated on creating a series of paintings and accompanying ceramic vessels that capture their interpretation of specific moments in the landscape.

Join us for the artist reception at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 10 to meet this inspiring artist couple.
