Yorkton Council supported a request to proclaim October as Agriculture Month in the city.
In making the request Rachel Kraynick Agricultural Programs Specialist, Yorkton Regional Office, Ministry of Agriculture noted “the Minister of Agriculture will proclaim the month of October as Agriculture Month in Saskatchewan once again this year. I, on behalf of the Yorkton Regional Office, request that Council consider issuing a Proclamation to officially declare October Agriculture Month in the City of Yorkton.
“With this proclamation, you will help raise awareness of the importance of Agriculture locally and in our province.”
The theme for Ag Month 2019 is “Our Food has a Story.”
“The goal is to encourage conversations about the food produced on Saskatchewan farms and ranches. We will be celebrating the dedicated people along the value chain who deliver healthy, affordable and safe products in a sustainable manner,” said Kraynick.
The proclamation passed with only Mayor Bob Maloney opposed, suggesting he has come to the conclusion the City should not be doing proclamations.
