A Yorkton RCMP officer, who has chosen to remain anonymous, is being hailed as a hero following a traffic incident last week.

On January 7, the detachment received a tip from the public through the RID (Report Impaired Drivers) program about a potentially impaired driver.

Members located the vehicle and one of the members determined the driver was actually in medical distress and administered First Aid.

The detachment told Yorkton This Week the officer did not want to be publicly identified and could not release the name or status of the patient.

It was a positive outcome of the RID program, which police say is invaluable in the fight against impaired driving.

“We would like to thank the civilian who called this in; please continue to report possible impaired drivers through RID,” a Facebook post stated.

Social media users chimed in with glowing praise for both the member and the RCMP in general.
