Binders cut the grain, tying it into sheaves, which were then stooked or bundled by hand in bunches of eight to ten sheaves in an upright position to dry. Sheaves were then picked up again by hand and taken by horse drawn "rack" wagons to stationary threshing machines to thresh the grain. Four teams are working in the background, each team has four horses. Seats on the binders were all molded metal with no padding, they got pretty hardand hot sitting like that for 12 hour days!
