Yorkton Council has approved a tender for the 2012 Asphalt Paving Program.

"This is an annual program that deals with paving of various areas in the city," explained Joshua Mickleborough, Engineering Manager with the City.

The 2012 Asphalt Paving Program consists of the following; Allen Bay, Balmoral Street, 7th Ave - Smith Street to Darlington Street, Dracup Avenue widening - Smith Street to Darlington Street, Airport Apron extension, Parking Lot of Park Shop on Myrtle Avenue and the pathway at Riverside Meadows Phase II.

"Only one bid was submitted," said Mickleborough, adding it came from Fedorowich Construction Ltd. for $529,788 without GST.

The budget for the 2012 Asphalt Paving program is estimated at $690,000.

Mickleborough said the increase of 7.5 per cent per cubic metre of asphalt was consistent when the "industrial product price index for asphalt which increased 3.2 per cent from April 2011 to April 2012 and preliminary data on payroll employment, earnings and hours indicates about a four per cent increase in weekly earnings in Saskatchewan over the same period" was factored in.

Council was unanimous in approving the tender.
