Holly's Nite Club is looking to provide local entertainment with a place to play.

Starting Aug. 29, and continuing each Thursday, the local entertainment spot will be turning its stage over to local musicians, singers and comedians.

"Basically it's an open mic jam night," explained Ryan Kormos, bar manager at Holly's.

Kormos said the night is a way to hopefully promote local talent, adding by local he does not mean just Yorkton, but as far afield as performers want to come out from.

"We really want to support local acts," he said, adding in terms of reach "we've already had some interest from Regina.

"And we do have interest in the city so hopefully the word is going to get out.

In terms of music, Kormos said it's open to anything from hip hop and rock, through country. He said a person can show up with a guitar and strum a few numbers, or with a trumpet and join in with other musicians, adding he wants it to be open to anyone.

"We want all the musicians to get along, meet some new faces, and share some stories," he said.

To help keep the music flowing local musician Steve Gibson, a recent Saskatchewan Country Music Award recipient, and his band will be the house act Thursday nights.

"He wants to try and get his name out, so he's going to be the host band every Thursday," said Kormos, adding that is great for other musicians who can have the opportunity to "plug in" and perform with an accomplished band.

To help with the first show on the 29th, Samara Yung will be on hand, along with members of the local band Heavy Wood.

While performers "can show up at the door" to play, pre-registration forms are available at Holly's, adding by signing up ahead of time "we can prepare more."

Kormos said the open mic will run from 8 p.m. 'til midnight, adding they are planning to combine the weekly show with the return of a wing night as well.
